Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a condition where patches of skin lose their pigment, resulting in white or depigmented areas. It occurs when melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin color, are destroyed or stop functioning.

Causes:

  • The exact cause of vitiligo is not fully understood, but it is believed to be an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own melanocytes.

Treatment Options:

  • Topical Treatments

Phototherapy:

  • UVB light therapy to stimulate repigmentation.

Oral Medications

Surgical Options:

  • Skin grafting or melanocyte transplantation for localized areas.

Micropigmentation:

  • Semipermanent makeup or creams to camouflage depigmented areas.

Diet:

  • While specific diets for vitiligo are not proven, a balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants like vitamin C,E,folic acid & zinc is beneficial.
