Androgenetic alopecia

Androgenetic alopecia is commonly known as male or female pattern baldness.

In men it presents as

  • Receding hairline
  • Diffuse thinning over top of the scalp

In women it presents as

  • Diffuse thinning of hair over the crown area
  • Widening of central parting
This type of hair loss is primarily caused by genetics and hormonal changes, specifically the influence of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on hair follicles.

Treatment aims to slow down hair loss and promote hair regrowth to varying degree. These can include:
  • Oral and topical medication
  • GFC-PRP treatment
  • Scalp threads
  • Microneedling
  • Hair transplant
